Kinja'd!!!

I watched a show last night with my daughter about owners of  unusual homes around the world. One of them was this man, Bruce Campbell, who lives in an old 727 he bought and put on a lot.

It got me to googling. There are plenty of other unorthodox uses to which people put retired planes. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to a few, including Campbell’s plane . Pretty cool.

That stack of debris holding up the front end look a little dicey. At least its a short drop if it collapses.

There’s a chunk of a 747 in CA and they used a wing as an awning. The problem is moving them to the location otherwise it’s pretty cheap to get an old fuselage. I have heard there is a tax dodge for having something on wheels, like train cars sitting on t racks on a lot.

Right? I thought the same thing!

“Well, we’ve done all this work to get it here, cut off wings, transported this thing across highways, built in an interior, now what should we use to level it?

“ Ehhh... just stack up some of those old pallets”

Yeah, first heard that and was disappointed a second later.

Looks sketchy doesn’t it?  But it’s apparently held for years.

The show said it cost Campbell $100k to buy and that much and more to transport to his lot.

Neat. We’ll probably see more and more as the 747s get retired.

That’s either cool or concerning. Perhaps both.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. They must almost give them away after you figure out how much it costs to move one.

I wonder what money they can squeeze out of salvage and recycle and whether it’s even profitable if they have  to do so.
